Where do you call home?

At the moment Freiburg, but I feel at home everywhere in the mountains!

What’s your day job?

I work as a construction engineer in an office for technical building services and building physics.

What’s your favorite part of your day job?

I like that I get to collaborate with colleagues to find the best solution for the project and to debate in a friendly and constructive team in my job.

What’s your least favorite part of your day job?

when there are some team members who won’t make any compromises or show at least understanding, it can get hard. But every project finds a happy end.

Who’s your favorite riding buddy and why?

Good question. I guess it’s not only just one buddy. It’s more the bunch of people I started biking with and had so much fun in the mountains and on those trails. No matter what kind of trails we rode, too difficult or too long and hard, it was always such a great atmosphere full of jokes and laughs while playing around with the bikes. Even in hard section that were a challenge to manage, after a few tries and crashes almost every one of us managed it and cheered on the others. Every now and then we try to meet again at a road trip or better a “trail trip”.

When did you start mountain biking? Why did you start? What made you a lifer (was it a moment, a ride, a trip, etc.?)?

I started mountain biking during my studies in about 2010. I lived quite close to the alps and was pretty keen to check out the mountains in a way where you can also have fun while going or riding down. So I bought a small fully and went more and more with my friends for some rides. And more and more and more till I realized, that Mountain biking is probably the most perfect activity: outdoors in the mountains, meeting new friends or having a great time with people who have the same mentality and also want to try new or challenging things. And also the technical aspect of bikes are great: Get to know how every single component works and repair it makes biking even more interesting.

What’s the thing you love second to cycling and why?

Do you feel that you have a good balance in your life? If yes, how do you achieve that? If no, what's off balance and why?

Yes, I feel pretty balanced. Especially if I can leave the office when the sun is still out and I can go for a ride alone or with some friends to forget about the stress or other things. Also when I finished my tasks at the job or also the parts of my small self-made training plan and start into a race weekend or holidays. Although I sometimes think about

What’s your favorite ride snack?

A self-made sandwich on the top of a big mountain, after you did a long ride to achieve the peak. And for the smaller home trails it’s enough to have one of those nutty bars with a funny chimpanzee at the front.

If you left for a big mountain bike trip tomorrow, what’s the top 3 things you couldn’t live without?

Besides my bike and protective gear, my top things would be a funny bunch of people, my small workshop box, and a grill to have an after ride BBQ.

What's one thing that no one knows about you?

Funny question! But I guess there is no real secret about me, sorry! I’m a quite open person who talks about nearly everything, especially with my real good friends.

What’s your favorite local trail?

It’s one trail from the top of Kandel Mountain. It’s the best mixture of technical, flowy and winded sections and all in one long natural trail. Also to climb to the top of this hill with a great view makes this trail one of the best here.

Is there another trail/area that you could compare it to?

Yes of course, there are many more areas, but each in their different kind of style. No trail is like another, but great in their own way!

What’s one other thing in your life that is as good as this trail?

The whole mixture of my life. Sometimes it’s rough and challenging, but you learn so much out of this. And sometimes it’s smooth going and you can relax and think about the next adventure and share your experiences with friends or other people on your road (or trail)
