Juliana Bicycles
MY20 Hot Tomato & MY20 Purple

You can’t define the Maverick in just one line.

You’re not here to be whatever somebody else thinks you should be... and neither is the Maverick.

You’re here to get down. You’re here to go fast. Not fast for a girl. Just damn fast. So is the Maverick. Did someone say smile more? No problem. Tell ‘em to look closer as you set your quads on fire churning up the last brutal climb that makes the downhill taste that much sweeter. When you live for that magical space between pleasure and pain, the Maverick is the bike that won’t say no when you say yes.

With 140mm of supportive rear travel complimented by 150mm of front suspension and obstacle eating 29” wheels, this bike isn’t measured by what it can do. It’s measured by what’s left to do.

The lower link VPP suspension soaks up big bumps with a pedal-efficient design that’s easy to tune exactly how you want it. Whether you’re hauling down root waterfalls, biting into big ledges, or soaking up the chatter, the Maverick isn’t here to tell you how to ride -- she enables you to ride wherever you decide.

Want to change the geometry? The integrated flip chip means all you have to do is grab an Allen key and in under a minute you can slacken the headtube and drop the bottom bracket for an extra-planted feel no matter how steep the descent gets.

Every size frame fits a water bottle inside the front triangle. After all, some days are made for riding lean. Other days are made for dusk-to-dawn solo sojourns that require an extra bottle in addition to a rucksack.

It’s time to escape the shoulda’s and the coulda’s. Write your own rules and explore trails until you run out of water or daylight (whichever comes last). The Maverick is just the pen.

Tech Support

Can I put 27.5" wheels on my Maverick?

The Maverick is compatible with 27x 2.8" tires in addition to our typical 29x2.4 spec. If you go this route, you'll most likely want the Hi BB setting and a 160mm fork, to keep the BB height in the right range.

How is the shock tuned for lighter riders?

The custom shock tune of the RockShox Super Deluxe was developed based on two major factors: leverage rate curve of the Juliana Maverick and intended user of this bike. Here's the exact specs: DebonAir air spring,1 Token, Light check, Light rebound, L1 compression.

I want to change my rear shock. Any limitations?

The Maverick fits most shocks on the market, with some exceptions. Fox Float X2, Cane Creek DB Air, and all coil shocks are not compatible. We recommend the Rockshox Super Deluxe, Deluxe, Fox DPX2, Fox Float DPS.

Should I ride in High or Low setting?

You should definitely try both, but we typically recommend starting in Low on the Maverick. If you find yourself hitting your pedals too much, give High a try.

The geometry chart shows two settings- how do I adjust that?

There's a "flip chip" on the link where the shock mounts. Just remove the lower shock bolt and flip the chips to the setting you desire.

What are the main differences between the Juliana Maverick and Santa Cruz Hightower?

The Maverick is spec'd with a shock that is tuned for lighter riders, a Juliana women’s saddle, and Juliana grips. It is offered in 4 kits.

What is the largest chainring I can use on the Maverick?

With a proper boost chainring (52mm chainline), the Maverick will accept a 36t chainring or smaller.

What is the recommended fork?

Our geometry is based off of a 150mm fork with a 42 or 44mm offset. We wouldn't recommend less travel than that, as the BB will get a bit low. 160mm is fine if that's your preference.

What kind of headset does this bike use?

This bike uses integrated headset cups. The upper is 41mm and the lower is 52mm. The SHIS name is IS 41/28.6 IS 52/40.

What size tire will fit?

This varies greatly depending on tire make and model, but 29x2.4" is generally the max you'd want in there. Some 2.5" tires will be fine as well, but not all.

Where can I find additional technical information for my bike?

Currently all technical info is located either on the bike archive or under tech support. Both can provide helpful information for puzzling with your bike, torque specs, and exploded diagrams.

Why is there no XS size Maverick?

The longer the travel in a 29” platform, the harder it is to make one in the smaller sizes. Our size small fits a fairly wide range of riders. For reference, our product Manager is ~5’1” and she fits on a size small. To accomodate a wider range of riders, we added a size large into the size range for the Maverick.
