Downhill World Cup 2019 - Vallnord

July 08 — 2019 | Vallnord, Andorra

After a short break, riders were back on course for the fifth round of the World Cup in Andorra. The Vallnord track has a reputation for being steep and physical, the steepest in the circuit, but this year there were some extra elements of difficulty. Riders had to brave the extreme heat while plummeting down the driest, loosest, roughest conditions ever seen in Andorra. The unpredictability of the track caused racers to struggle to make it to the finish line without crashing.

Nina Hoffmann was coming off a real high from her second-place finish at Leogang and it showed. Despite treacherous conditions at nearly every turn, Nina threw down a clean run in her qualifying round that put her in first place.
One big air and two shoes tied tight.

On race day, the drama continued for many racers and Nina was not immune. She braved and recovered from a couple of near-crashes in the first half of the race, but towards the end she would slide out and crash. After a quick rebound, she crossed the finish line with a foot in the air... shoeless. Upon reinspection, during her crash, she came out of her shoe. Determined to complete the race, Nina continued down the gnarliest course of the series without a shoe and would ultimately finish the day in 9th place.
