Accountant by day, MTB athlete/coach by night, and no stranger to wearing tights! Jaime started her career as an athlete at a young age as a gymnast, which lead her to West Virginia University on a full NCAA gymnastics scholarship.
While accounting has its perks, a flexible schedule and the obvious joy of “geeking-out” to Excel spreadsheets, Jaime’s passion lies with coaching and riding. The best part about coaching, says Jaime, is helping others’ overcome fears and reach their riding goals, whatever they might be.
It’s tough to pin down one favorite riding buddy because Jaime likes the vibe of bigger group rides and the variety of riding with different people who challenge her; but if she had to choose just a few, she’d have to say fellow Juliana rider Sarah, her bestie Victoria for smashing park laps, or Celina, D-Rail, Jay and Annie for an epic trail day – no matter what they’re always up for whatever adventure Jaime could dream up!
Jaime didn’t get introduced to riding bikes until the age of 26 years old, after moving across Canada from Toronto to Whistler, BC. Jaime remembers seeing the bad-ass chicks coming out of the bike park and thinking how awesome it’d be to give it a try. After one lap, she was hooked! She gravitated to the gravity-fed discipline of DH for the sheer adrenaline and feeling of being completely free and in the moment and quickly took to jumping and racing DH. About five or six years ago, Jaime began exploring terrain outside of the park, and soon found the joy of adventuring into unknown places by the power of her own two feet – Today she enjoys big epic rides, but still revels in hitting big jumps!
Jaime brings to mountain biking the same dedication it takes to be a world class gymnast but also knows the value of having fun and not taking herself too seriously!
When Jaime’s not getting rad on her bike, you’ll find her in the gym working on her Olympic lifting PRs or out busting a move on the dance floor. The discipline of lifting helps compliment her training focus, while hitting the dance club helps satiate her love of having a good time – it’s all about balance for Jaime. “If you’re not having fun, what’s the point?!”
If Jaime were to leave on a biking trip tomorrow the top three things she couldn’t live without would be snacks (number one!!!), a few beers for the top of the climb, and more snacks! Her favorite snack is probably chocolate and nuts…but she’s not picky and has even packed homemade “pocket burgers” in a pinchJ
One thing no one might know about Jaime is that one of her childhood dreams was to be a break dancer in a music video…she’s still working on that one!
Favorite local trail – That’s a really tough decision, because the Sea to sky Corridor has so many great ones to choose from, says Jaime, and really depends on what zone your riding in! Brittania Beach has some of the best slabs to ride, while Squamish and Whistler trails have lots of tech. Pemberton’s steep, loose and fast trails are some of Jaime’s favorites, and if she had to choose a favorite lap in the bike park, it’d probably be a top to bottom jump line consisting of Freight Train, Dirt Merchant and Lower A-lineJ
So far, Finale Italy has been one of the best places Jaime’s ridden outside of BC, and is a close comparison to the feeling she gets riding her local trails. Oregon and Santa Cruz have some gems too, and are super fast – Jaime’s favorite kind of trails!
