Downhill World Cup 2019 - Leogang

6月 10 — 2019 | Leogang, Austria

For the second weekend in a row, the Juliana Free Agents were racing for World Cup DH podiums, this time at Leogang, Austria. Last week was monumental for Juliana with the first EVER podium at a downhill World Cup race, and Nina Hoffman was ready to outdo her own record from Fort William in the Austrian Alps. Her teammate, Juliana Free agent Raphaela Richter, just achieved the title of German Enduro National Champion and was about to take on her first World Cup race.

Nina gets into the right frame of mind with a pre-race trainer session.

The Leogang course is known for its steep terrain and offers a little bit of everything; jarring roots, high speeds, and huge bike park jumps. After Fort William, riders could not escape the rain but were well used to it by now. Instead of creating mud bogs like last weekend, the rain cleared and the dust took over making a loose course with some fast, close runs.

The nerves were high on the practice for this course, no room for mistakes when every millisecond counts. But, both girls learned from practice and were ready to put it on the track for strong qualifying runs. Juliana riders filled two of the top five places, Raphaela in 5th and Nina in 3rd.

Finals were sure to be close after riders put down record fast and tight times in qualifiers. Nina charged out of the gate and sent it over the first jumps of the track to gain a 4 second lead over all the other riders ahead of her. Numerous sprints and sharp riding, followed by the biggest jump of her life, brought Nina across the finish line where she secured 2nd place for the weekend and achieved back-to-back World Cup podiums.

One step higher ... let's keep this podium party going.

Raphaela rode aggressively, focusing on gaining momentum through the course. She rode with conviction and consistency through the weekend and landed in 6th place. We will see young Raphaela compete at the Enduro World Series in Val Di Fassa at the end of the month. Nina and her Juliana V10 will move on to Vallnord to defend her 3rd place standing at the new World Cup DH.
