Zephyr Sylvester

What’s your day job?
Researching how climate models can be used to understand Antarctic krill! I work as a graduate student researcher at CU Boulder in pursuit of one day getting my PhD in environmental studies.

Who’s your favorite riding buddy, and why?
My fellow Juliana rider, Clare - mainly because she’s standing right behind me, but also because she’s rad as heck, corners like a boss, and is down to goof around even when we’re suffering through a tough ride.

When did you start mountain biking?
I’ve been told that when I was 5, I used to scare my babysitters by riding down the steepest hill in my yard, straight at a building, and then turning away at the last second. I’ve been riding ever since!

What’s the thing you love second to mountain biking?
The ocean.

What’s your favorite ride snack?
Cashew Cookie Larabars

If you left for a big mountain bike trip tomorrow, what are the top 3 things you couldn’t live without?
Friends, food, and my phone.

What's one thing that no one knows about you?
My preferred snow sport is sledding.

Where do you live and what is your favorite local trail?
Boulder, Colorado - Trestle Bike Park at Winter Park

Why is it your favorite?
Because you can ride laps all day long with your friends

What’s one other thing in your life that is as good as this trail?
When my Python scripts actually work, better yet, when they run on the first try.

You are new to Juliana, but which bike are you most excited to ride? Why?
I am super stoked to hop on the Maverick - I’m all in on the big wheels and the geometry of this bike. It’s the perfect fit for handling burly terrain while staying playful and energetic everywhere else.
