"Do what makes you happy"
Debi Motsch lets passion take the lead when it comes to life’s choices, whether it’s a decision with her studies, jobs, or where she wants to live (currently Annecy in the French Alps). And her passion for mountain biking has brought her to fantastic encounters with like-minded friends, trips to beautiful places, and unforgettable life experiences.
By age seven, Debi began mountain biking with her friends from school, and cycling became a lifelong endeavor. After ten years of competitive XC racing, Debi eventually discovered a love for the thrills and challenges of enduro. She spent six months interning with the BC Bike Race organizers, and since that time she's traveled to New Zealand, Morzine, France, and beyond. “Les Bikettes” is the name of the girls’ bike team that Debi co-created with other women who share her mission to make mountain biking more accessible to girls.
Debi splits her year in half. In the summer she’s a mountain bike instructor and guide, organizing private lessons and mountain biking skills camps called “Chicks on Bikes,” to bring ladies together to improve their mountain bike skills in the most beautiful parts of her local region. When she’s not riding, you can find her scouting out adventure in her van. During the winter, she works as a commercial assistant for outdoor brands.
What’s the thing you love second to cycling and why?
"I love outdoor sports in general, in particularly skiing! I love living with the season. From December to March, I leave my bike in the garage and I ski every weekend. Ski touring provides the same feeling as a mountain bike, the higher you climb, the better is the view. I like comparing a powder day with an amazing singletrack :)"
